World No 1 Michael Jeremiasz (FRA) held off a fierce challenge from fourth seed Tadeusz Kruszelnicki (POL) on Sunday to win his first Men's Main Draw Singles title at the Australian Open, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, at Melbourne Park.
Kruszelnicki, contesting his first Super Series final, was far from overawed by either the occasion or the top seed, forcing Jeremiasz to go all out to edge the first set on a tie-break. The match remained close throughout the second set, but finally it was Jeremiasz who held on for a 76(6) 64 victory that doubles his career tally of Super Series titles. As well as back-to-back Super Series crowns, the US Open champion was also maintaining his perfect record in 2006 with three wins from three tournaments
